A Haiku Sequence for New Year’s Morning 2014
pine decorations—
tearing off the final
calendar pages . . .
New Year’s morning—
drinking tomato juice
from a tall glass
first sunrise
over Estrella mountains
Year of the Horse
at breakfast
scrambled eggs and black beans—
cinnamon roll scents
up in smoke—
New Year’s decorations
transformed
