Special Feature Collaborative Poem--By Jack Horne and Audrey Haick--England and United States

My Favorite Place to Visit

By Jack Horne, England and Audrey Haick, United States

I wander through the town in which he lived,
Believe I feel his presence all around.
I visit places that he must have loved:
His childhood home, the church and New Place ground.

I lay a single rose upon his grave,
Sincerely wishing that he would appear;
I close my eyes and, smiling, think of him.
Ah, I love Stratford, home of Will Shakespeare.

On cold wintry days when my thoughts take flight
I‘m off to the great Pacific and her tropical lands
All exotic remnants of paradise in plain sight
How like footprints they seem upon the ocean, grand

Lush, vibrant green foliage and the richest colors ignite
As palms dance the Hula under a dazzling sun
Encircled by warm trade winds infusing daily delight
As four islands still evolving, offer us, endless fun!

(Note--The four Hawaiian Islands--Honolulu, Kauai, Maui and Oahu)

  1. Wow, I love this poem with its resounding echoes and visuals. It's like walking into an ancient tomb which would be mindboggling, to say the least! The beautiful admiration for this poetic genius and writer exudes from your words to this reader and fills me with a nostalgic pang of knowing and wishing and dreaming.... a wonderful moment indeed! 5. What a delightful and soul touching homage to one that is no longer with you and yet I felt as if he also walked with you both! Drawing us into view of his love of life and allowing us to know him just a little. A sweet ache and desire from this joint endeavor that captures the reader from the first sentence and leaves you wishing that you had walked in his shoes for even a single moment. Beautifully written! Congrats to both of you! Love Jane

Dear Jack and Audrey, you have written about two places I would love to visit. I can feel your passion throughout the poem and you painted images so clear and evocative. Perhaps these dreams will come true for all of us. What do you think? Should we plan a vacation together? Congratulations on a brilliant co-write! 9. The first two verses touch me greatly, and remind me of visiting my the gravesites of my ancestors...in doing so, I felt a connection to them, and the verses speak to that connection, the love that never ends. The last two verses bring to mind my honeymoon - we visited those 4 islands of Hawaii. Wonderful memories came flooding back as I read the words. Great work together! Kristina

  11. Old to current, not that Shakespeare is not current to this day. I have been to poet's corner at Westminster and felt the same overwhelming thoughts. Now the glory of Hawaii is on my list. Wonderful piece Jack and Audrey.
