Ten Below Variations--By David Austin--United States

Ten Below Variations

it’s ten below
           no place to go
warm roots asleep

sunny sky high
         ten degrees below
birds like shadows in the snow

            branches
    weave a tangled web
ten below       with snow

so cozy inside
coffee
my fat persian licks itself

drifting snow
ten below zero
mind sliding down a rooftop

  1. Dear Daver, this is an awesome series of haiku. I felt the bitter cold through your words. Enjoyed thinking of you watching the birds' shadows as you sat warmly inside drinking your coffee. Please stay inside until it's warm enough for your car to start. LOL Great work! Love, Carolyn D.

  2. David, I loved your variations of ten below. Quite a thoughtful piece of work. How well I can relate as I live in a place that gets below zero in the winter often. That is when I enjoy the indoors. thank you for sharing

  3. Thank you, Christine Tate, for the following comment--

Hi Dave, I enjoyed your descriptive poem, & I can totally relate to it! You painted an icy picture of the deep freeze many of us have been thru this winter. Today we woke up to "freezing rain", but get this, we'll be experiencing an "early spring" with temps rising rapidly in the next few days. An unpredictable winter for sure! ~Chris

  4. I felt the chill and also enjoyed the mention of warmth in the coffee and the fat persian. Excellent one Dave.

  5. Your poem is so clever and paints a complete picture of a winter's day.
    The ending line is brilliant.

  6. Very nice poem, David. Fun and a reminder of last weeks zero below temperatures here in Michigan. It was beautiful outside with all the snow and all, but is was very, very cold. Thank you for sharing this.
