Pursuit of Happiness--By Jim Teeters--United States

Pursuit of Happiness

And thus
   it was
       the tattered pillow
       the worn-out mattress
of my way of life
over now with my dream-filled
                oyster bed of promised pearls
                gone forever
down twisted garden path
                through rich array of flowers
eases my broken spirit
                toughness of thick leather
               over my tender hope
welcomed light
                slowly grows
from dim to bright
as I drift into
                warm breath
                of your caring

Jim Teeters has published poetry in several anthologies. He conducts poetry workshops for children and adults and is active in poetry readings in the Seattle area through the Striped Water Poets. He is the author of six poetry collections and the book, Teach with Style, (ASTD Press July 2013). Jim is a retired social worker living in Kent, Washington.
