His Birthday--By Joyce Johnson--United States

His Birthday

Do you have that Christmas feeling?
Can you smell it in the air?
All the folks you meet are smiling,
Happiness is every where.
We are all hiding presents
That our loved ones must not see,
And no matter where we go
There is a shining Christmas tree.

It is the birthday party for
A Child of long ago.
Baby Jesus is the reason
That so many candles glow.
He came to bring us peace and joy
And goodwill every where.
In December we remember and
For a little while we care.

Joyce Johnson lives in the beautiful Skagit Valley of Washington State. She owns a small farm and rents her land to a bulb grower. She is surrounded by beauty in the spring from the tulips and daffodils that inspire much of her poetry. Joyce will celebrate her 95th birthday in July of 2013.

  1. Isn't it sad 'for a little while we care' - It seems people are just too busy to remember Him - It also seems the older we get, the more we remember what we should have remembered years prior. Just a thought - very moving poetry...

  2. Loved your Christmas poem, every word so true. It makes me want to extend the Christmas season just because I don't want the love and giving to fade away. Like you say the caring only stays for a little while in so many hearts and the cares of the world set back in with the ringing in of the New Year.
    Love, Charlene

  3. Dear Joyce, How I wish that Christmas feeling could remain with us all year long. The last two lines are so poignant, so true. I pray we will find a way to make the holiday spirit last year round. Beautifully written as always, dear friend. Love and wishes for a Merry Christmas, Carolyn Devonshire

  4. Thank you, Jack Horne, for the following comment--

    just beautiful
