When Disaster Strikes--By Mary Kent--United States

When Disaster Strikes

How do we deal with a sudden loss?
With mixed emotions weighing down our heart's,
We scream, we cry, we wonder why!

How could this happen? Please Lord oh why?
Please give me strength to carry on and keep
the faith that makes me strong!

You have a reason for this I know!
One should not question,
But, it is hard to let go!

So take my hand and walk with me
to give me strength
to help set them free.

Mary Kent resides in the Pacific Northwest, a successful business woman. She is a wife and mother, blessed with a wonderful family. Mary is ever inspired and enriched by life and nature. She is dedicated to writing in her journal of poetry. She writes from her heart and soul, pleased to share her words with us.

  1. Thank you Mary for a well written and inspiring poem. The Lord is most certainly our strength in times of adversity. Where can we turn for peace and where is our solace, He only one.
    Love, Charlene

    1. Charlene,
Thank you for taking the time to read my poem.
I am new to this site and is taking some time to respond
to all the beautiful comment's. I am so flattered! Thank You.

  2. Beautifully said, Mary. Reminds me of the Psalms, and David as he cried out to the Lord in his pain, then worshiped the Lord as He provided strength and peace. Yes, it's hard to surrender to the Lord when it hurts. But His will is always to bless us. I love the ending...walking with the Lord. Lisa

    1. Lisa,
Thank you. It's hard not to question and ask why?
When a loved one passes have to believe he has a plan for us.

  3. Dear Mary,

It is good to see you already have two lovely comments on your wonderful poem. Welcome to Whispers! I hope you enjoy your time spent here. Please let me know if you have any questions.

    1. Karen,
First of all, Thank you I feel so blessed!
All my poem's in my journal can now be posted for all to see.
I feel like I'm sharing my heart. Thank You.

  4. Dear Mary,

It's difficult not to react as you describe in your first verse when we experience a sudden loss. Over time, however, we come to realize that God has a plan for each of us and we will see our loved ones again in heaven. The grieving process is surely aided by those who offer a "hand" of comfort and faith keeps us going even through our darkest hours. You wrote this beautifully! Best wishes, Carolyn

  5. Hi, Mary, it is wonderful to see you become a part of Whispers! Great poem about a devastating situation! Sheri

    1. Sheri,
As always---Thank you for inviting me on such
      a beautiful journey. Mary

  6. A very nicely written poem that gives hope and encouragement to a question that is often pondered by many, "How do we deal with" this and that. Good write, Mary. Thanks for sharing and continued blessings!
