Amidst Potent Floods--By Audrey Haick--United States

Amidst Potent Floods

Though thunderous noises besiege me
And menacing flames threaten my being
I will gaze upon wondrous works of creation
And trust that I should not fear

Amidst potent floods, I will stand
Anxiety may hang thick as clouds above me
And though I trod through dark, murky waters
My feet, by God's grace, planted well

For who keeps the ocean tucked in its bed?
Who bids the caterpillar, sleep and sprout wings?
If He cares so much for these creations
There is no doubt, He cares for me!

Audrey, a.k.a. Annalise Brigham resides in beautiful Maryland, U.S.A. A Mother to one amazing daughter. She's also a published author and loves writing and reading poetry.

  1. Dear Audrey, I have always admired your faith. The strength you describe so well in this poem is also a gift you give to others. Keep your feet planted well and stand fast through life's potent storms. Yes, the challenges are many, but with God's grace we can rise above them and bring joy to others as well. Very beautifully written, dear. Love, Carolyn D.

When I read this poem, I was struck by the line, "For who keeps the ocean tucked in its bed". This is an original and arresting image in a poem that brings comfort in times of difficulty.
