Too Fast For Me--By Marcus Omer--United States

Too Fast For Me

The world all ‘round is moving fast,
it goes a-whizzing by,
the way its moves so frightens me,
I can only sit and cry.

Now everything is “drive-through”
or “overnight express”.
In every line I own the rear,
my more is always less.

The young folks say I poke along;
I think I’m in a trot.
They finish before I’ve started,
they’ve zipped before I squat.

Their thumbs growing sharp from texting,
it’s changed the way we spell.
Since they’ve dreamed-up all these shortcuts,
I’m tardy before the bell.

So I’m sittin’ on the sidelines,
ain’t gonna run no mo’
for the way they zip ‘round and ‘round,
I’m ‘fraid they’ll start to glow.

Marcus Omer got serious about writing after he retired in 1997. He draws his inspiration from the many emotions we experience in life. He has published Of Sunshine and Clouds with iUniverse and The Winding Road with Shadow Poetry. He’s also published in Snippets, The Magic of Words and several issues of Golden Words.

  1. It seems the world is too fast for most of us if we are over the age of 21! Enjoyable reading - finding you with artistic abilities as you paint a picture for us to read. Nice poetry that is fitting for todays time and age...

  2. Hi Marcus, I love the way you describe a technologically-challenged person trying to survive in today's world. I live near Daytona, the "birthplace of speed," and the driving and whizzing around you describe has never been more true than it is here. Lord, help us dinosaurs. LOL Great poem! Best wishes, Carolyn Devonshire

  3. Thank you, Dave Austin, for the following comment--

Too Fast For Me, by Marcus Omer. Tell Marcus I can completely identify. I suppose I still live in the 20th Century and even that was too fast for me. Love, Dave

  5. I really enjoyed reading your poem. Even though it is sadly true for me, it is ironic the older we get the faster we'd like to go and yet the slower we become. It was fun to read. It's ok with me though, this slowing down. It forces me to have priorities.

  6. Marcus,
In this whirlwind of life, it is so easy to get lost in the "hustle and bustle of things" that you capture so well in this poem.
    Sincerely,
