tai chi class
the weight
of air

--bottle rockets

dandelions
old ladies
under hairdryers
       
--bottle rockets

katydid
katydidn’t
insect gossip
       
--bottle rockets

flashlight moon
low
on batteries

--bottle rockets

coffin
in the curves
of the tuba

The co-founder of the New Orleans Haiku Society, Johnette Downing is a multi-award winning children's book author, musician and haiku poet. She has received twenty-one awards for her music, books and haiku and has performed in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Central America, North America and the Caribbean.   3. Thank you so much for the great imagery. I loved it all. "Katydid Kaydydidn't insect gossip," was so right on and I can just hear the Katydids calling back and forth to each other, when as a child I would go fishing with my Dad. Thanks for the memories.

  5. Johnette, I love these haiku! I can't pick a favorite, but I will say that I'll never see a dandelion the same way again. I had never thought about how they look like old ladies under hair dryers, but they do. I like the insect gossip one too. Kudos!
