Procrastination--By Charlene McCutcheon--United States

Procrastination

A
habit
born of doubt
or perhaps fear,
procrastination,
has dire consequences.
Persistent, nagging feelings
of worry and anxiety build,
because progression has come to a halt.

Charlene McCutcheon is a 73 year old, wife, mother of seven, grandmother of thirty and great-grandmother of 14. She has just discovered her voice through poetry within the last few years. Her former ways of expression have been through the media of arts and crafts. Her desire to share herself with others for their benefit has been the motivating factor in all her endeavors. She loves life, work, play and most of all people.

  1. Hello, Charlene! Always great reading you here at Whispers! Indeed, procrastination is like a vice upon vices which only exacerbates a situation. Being human has its downfalls, but then again....... what else would we want to be? Smile! I can say that at times, I am a notorious procrastinator, but the prodding that comes with it is like a very rude awakening until one gets up off their bum and gets it done....... but, always, humans are the greatest in ingenuity and innovation! Maybe the "procrastinating" is a hidden inspiration! I think we can apply this to our Karen, our creator of Whispers, she doesn't have time to procrastinate. She is too busy embracing writers of the world! Thanks for a great poem! Sheri / www.poetryandbeyond.net

    1. Thank you so much Sheri. You are always so wonderful to comment on all the poems. God bless you for your faithfulness.

When I learn to overcome this bad habit with the good and patient Lord, what a blessing that will be in my life. I first must overcome excess for I find I allow that habit to interfere with doing the most important now. :) Oh well I must accept myself as imperfect and love myself anyway. The good Lord does, I know because I do the best I can.. :D

    2. Ah, thank you for your very kind words, Charlene. But, you know, as well as I, that to have access through Whispers to all these wonderful writings, is a pure blessing. It is always so amazing to me to realize how alike we all are, and yet how different and creative! God bless, my friend. Sheri / www.poetryandbeyond.net

  2. Dear Charlene,
I don't understand why people procrastinate because it produces all of the negative feelings you describe so well in this poem. One of my greatest fears is procrastination itself. I cannot seem to rest until I get things done. When I was a reporter, my editor called me "Deadline Devonshire." I have always been early for everything and would rather wait half an hour for a friend to arrive at a movie or restaurant, I get there early. It doesn't bother me when others are late, but your poem does address a subject to which I can definitely relate. Very well expressed, dear friend.

    1. Carolyn my dear, You are like my DH who is ahead of time on anything he knows must be done. No waiting around for him. I have to say that is a gift from God that not all people have. I am praying and working for that gift. I see a little headway but not as much as I would like. :)

  3. I enjoyed reading your lovely poem Charlene. Procrastination can never be the answer to every thought indeed. Although it does give us time to think, at times it is better not to rush in, (smile) Blessings sent with love, Leokadia

    1. Thank you so much Leokadia for your timely comment. I needed your reminder that it isn't always bad to procrastinate a little. I berate myself so harshly at times for the weakness of procrastination. I need to remember, "fools rush in where angels fear to tread". You are so right we do need to have time to think and plan ahead at times.

  5. I can so relate to this poem, as, alas, I am a procrastinator. And I find the longer, I wait the bigger the ask becomes in my mind. You describe the feelings well. Kristina

    1. I have just now been able to get on here and see a few more comments. It was not that I procrastinated :) but that I only have so many minutes in the day to get all done that needs to be done and then be able to have time to get on Whispers. Wish I had more than 24 hours in a day. I so much appreciate your comments Rhoda, You always do my weary heart good. Thank you for being you, Love, Charlene

May I say I know them all, proving the case that I am also guilty...lol

You're certainly right about procrastination! If I hadn't gotten my thyroid news in 2013 and started lymphoma treatments, I wouldn't be sharing poetry with you!
