Letter To A Young Girl--By Sheri Stanley--United States

Letter To A Young Girl
A Malala Yousufzai Dedication

Dear Malala Yousufzai,
you are such a beautiful child,
gentle and mild
to dream of a world
with pages curled
burning and yearning
to learn, to grow
your passion so deep
so real in sleep
in the heat of day
too excited to play
but to speak for those
who couldn’t say …

In innocence to share a cause
a moral obligation pause
the little child shall lead the way
upon the bus that very day
he called her name and up she got
the coward raised his gun and shot …….

Sheri is an artist, song writer and poet. She is also a graphic and digital book illustrator. A citizen of the United States she enjoys golf and music and quiet evenings at home with her much cherished family.

  1. I think I know who you are writing about. how tragic. just because she wanted to be educated. the repression of woman ans their treatment in any form is shocking. and as you point out she was only a child. I could feel your compassion and upset throughout this excellently written poem Sheri. very poignant and had an emotional affect on me. thank you for sharing. you expressed yourself very well. best wishes. Pete.

  2. Interesting poem and it reminds me of the Malala tale... Amazing what a lot of people have to go through in this life that we take for granted.
I like the simplicity of the poem and the fact that we don't have to dig too deep to find the meaning. Yet, I know that if we dig deep, we will find more meanings. This, and others, leave me smiling. Well done Sheri. Thank you for sharing.

  13. Thank you, Robert Dufresne, for the following--

I appreciate your tribute to this young girl and all who share in the passions of real life. your poem is true to life as life can be. I enjoy reading your lines. Seeming so simple but giving way to meditation about all our brothers and sisters and our place in this world.

    my favorite lines:
" to dream of a world with pages curled burning
and yearning to learn, to grow ..."

    Thank you for sharing it.

A poignant poem about a little girl who just wanted to learn it is shocking that anyone could do this to an innocent child.
