If Walls Could Talk--By Gerald Heyder--United States

If Walls Could Talk

The spooks are out
   come Halloween night
with giggled echoes
   from children’s delight,
take this lesson
   from unsettled life--
objects reveal more
   than chattering wife!
If walls could talk
   what tales they’d tell
as pictures are eyes
   in rooms they dwell.
Ponder your deeds
   both lady and sir,
could a haunting house
    someday occur?

Gerald Heyder is a published poet from Milwaukee, Wisconsin

  1. Gerald, what a great metaphor you use here and indeed one wonders about it especially when it comes to trees. The trees must be filled with knowledge and secrets ............. I really like your poem, it is exceptionally creative! Sheri /

  2. Gerald, I really enjoyed your poem. Indeed if wall could talk, I think we would all watch our words and actions a little closer. A very well written creative poem.
Thank you for sharing your talent with all of us.

  3. Hi Gerald, this is so spooky, but funny at the same time. Loved the line about walls revealing more than a chattering wife. Many homes and other structures are believed to be haunted. Here in Florida, the fort in St. Augustine (Castillo de San Marcos) is said to be haunted by the ghosts of former native American slaves. Loved your poem! Best wishes, Carolyn

  4. Hi Gerald. I always appreciate how you don't mind "stepping outside the box" to write what is on your heart. Nice poem. Keep up the great work. Continued blessings!
