When the Muse Dictates--By Gerald Heyder--United States

When the Muse Dictates

Stop the presses and hold the phones,
inspiration is thrilling my bones!
Am I facetious or just vain,
sometimes authors go insane.
Are you laughing or raising your brow?
It’s hard to know from here anyhow.
All you writers know what I mean
when ideas come like a steam rolling machine;
I simply say to all you mates,
“Raise the shades when the muse dictates!”

Gerald Heyder is a published poet from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

  1. Gerald, I loved your poem. Indeed we do have to write when inspiration hits and who knows when that will be. I think you hit the nail on the head with this one. I am smiling at the irony of what we as writers go through. No my friend you are not vain, just giving credit where credit is due, am I right. :) Thanks for sharing this enjoyable write.

  2. You are right, Gerald; when our muse calls we have to be ready to drop everything and make her welcome! It would be a right shame to leave her waiting on the doorstep! // paul

  3. Gerald, what a fun poem full of bounce, rhythm and rhyme with a great message to ne'er ignore "the muse" - that is what writers' block is made of........... cute and clever poem! Sheri

  4. A pen and paper in every room, because a few steps to search them out and the poem could be lost forever...I thought your poem expressed the nature of the poet so well. Blessings for the holidays, Connie

  5. Gerald,
    I do a lot of writing in my room, or sometimes at my workplace if work is slow and the inspiration hits. Good one!
