"Care-giving"--By Cindy Hutchings--United States

"Care-giving"

Taking care of my Dad
I’ve realized the difference
from caring for my children

when my children were little
I took care of them
helped them with all their needs

all the while knowing
they would learn how
to take care of themselves

now that my Dad is elderly
and I’ve taken care of him
helped him with his needs

all the while I know
he no longer can
take care of himself

this is a knowing
that is quite tender
while full of love.

  2. Hello Cindy

The words in your entry are so true and reach the emotive factor. Yes, there is a difference in care giving. I am in the same situation in life where I am now the parent. Thank you for sharing your entry. I very much enjoyed your chosen format. Sincerely, Ann Marie Mazzarella

  5. Cindy,
It is nice you still take care of your father, even at an elderly age. I work in a nursing home, and you'd be amazed how many people just want to give up. Welcome to Whispers! I look forward to reading a lot more of your work.
    Your new friend,
    David Fox

  6. Hello Cindy. Welcome to Whispers and thank you for sharing that heart-felt poem. Reminds me of when my dad was bed-stricken. I'm glad my mom elected to take care of him at home until he passed away. Continued blessings to you!

  7. Yes, Cindy! What Carl said, what Jo said, and Jack, and David, and Karen, and Ann Marie, and Maurice -- It's such a privilege, to care for a beloved parent or friend toward the end of life; YOU know this, and so do I, and recognize its painful blessings. Your father is fortunate to have your gentle smile and hands upon him now.
