Kissing (for Alba Leigh)--By Michael Todd--United States

Kissing (for Alba Leigh)

What is a kiss, an emotional act?
Essential to foreplay, without doubt;
Spontaneous, not a science exact,
For sure; something we cannot do without.

Give me one who kisses, eyes open wide,
As closed eyes might lend to thoughts that wander.
Eyes are a window to what lies inside,
A moment we might otherwise squander.

Taking keen note of the tell tale signs that
Separate kiss of life from kiss of death;
Some lift you, others take you to the mat,
Those that deprive life or just take your breath.

The question, "What does a kiss mean to me?"
What it means to you, what I hope to see.

  8. To me, a kiss is not to analyze,
    Though, true, they really aren't " one size."
    I'd rather close my eyes and FEEL
    Whether mediocre or done with zeal.

    1. There is no way I will beg to differ,
      With you here, my world class riffer.
      Though we may answer a different call,
      I will concede, one sized kiss fits all.

    2. Hi Michael. I really enjoyed reading this romantic and spiritual piece. It is beautifully phrased and has a lilting cadence that accentuates your theme. Kissing is one of my favorite things in life. That and hugging are two of the ultimate acts of human love and affection. Where would we be without them? I dare not consider.

  11. For me the closing of the eyes is to more feel the emotions that overcome one by the kiss. Or if it is an awful kiss, lol, then it is more about eww get this over with. Enjoyed your words as always. :)

  13. Michael this is beautiful. It makes me think back on my very first kiss. Also, there have been lots of very first kisses. My high school sweetheart, first dates, my new born son and daughter. I think God kisses me every day because each day is brand new.
