To Marion: In Memoriam--By Joann Grisetti--United States

To Marion: In Memoriam

With body frail, yet eager mind
She views the far off hill once climbed
Beyond her reach, both earth and time,
She thinks of when
    God will come for her.

She has lived her life’s full measure
Partaken of its joy and pleasure
Her body’s still, calm, at leisure
She senses soon
    God will come for her.

Resting far from the daily streets
Her soul has found an easy peace
Her lips in holy prayer do meet
She knows Him now
    God has come for her.

I see her laid upon her bier
Where mercy reigns, her fate is clear
No prophet I, nor sage, nor seer,
And yet I know
    God has come for her.

  2. Hi, Joann, this is beautifully and gracefully written with intricate and intimate thoughts of "that moment" - sooner or later we will all know. Thanks for sharing such an insightful poem with us here at Whispers. Sheri / www.poetryandbeyond.net

  3. Dear Joanna,
This is an incredible poem. You have created many of the feelings and images we associate with dying, but in an uplifting way. Excellent! I see you are in Florida too. I wonder which part of the state.

Sending hugs on your beautiful dedication to "Marion,"
    Love,
    Carolyn

  4. Dear Joanna,

I'm having trouble posting comments and am away on vacation, but I was totally absorbed by the depth of your poem. All the images and feelings we associate with the end of a life are brilliantly described in your words.
In which part of Florida do you live?
    Love,
    Carolyn
