Tanka--By Elizabeth Howard--United States

looking at Christmas lights
with a three-year-old . . .
an excited country girl
I rode to a neon city
to see Gone with the Wind
_____________

at Christmas
honeybees testing the keyhole
to the cinnamon buns—
yet when fruit trees blossom
                    only surrogates
______________

in the guest cabin
grandchildren on pallets
helter-skelter . . .
pick up a blue stick
red, green, yellow tumble
