Heaven Not Far Away--By Isha Wagner-New Zealand

Heaven Not Far Away

Go to the thousand doors
Find door marked thou
(with an emerald)
Go through door to a million staircases
Find the one with exactly one hundred steps
(with a diamond)
Climb up to the billion elevators
Enter the one that speaks thy name
Ascend then wait perhaps a trillion years
For heaven to open its infinite arms

To your own musical note.

Isha Wagner is a New Zealand poet. She has resided in many countries including Iceland, Libya, India, and Australia.  She read some of her work at the VIII International Poetry Festival held in Granada, Nicaragua, in February 2012. She has had three collections of poetry published.

  1. Oh, I really like this. There are so many steps we must take before we can feel Heaven open wide it's arms for us. But it happens because I know.

  2. Dear Isha -

I thought the elevator would be the "last" step. How you delight the spirit in such heavenly surprise. This is a most remarkable poem which I have read four times now. I will come back for the pure delight of it when I need a little bit of heaven.

  3. Hello, Isha. I have always thought of a "stairway to heaven" and you described the journey to eternal life so beautifully. Very well said! Best wishes, Carolyn Devonshire

  4. the poem is really lovely as are each of the days of our lives.... here on earth we are in preparation for the heavenly staircase that we hope we will all ascend to meet the Master. God bless
