Catching Magic--By Marcus Omer--United States

Catching Magic

Lily-white days, the Summer’s filled,
     the year was forty-one.
In creeks, in brooks, in meadows clean,
the cords of youth were spun.
Those lazy days, those barefoot days,
     we played on dusty roads.
In tall green grass ‘neath night-time sky,
     we searched the mystic code.
When shooting stars by chance would fly
     with temping tails of light,
we caught them in an old fruit jar
and rode them out of sight.

Marcus Omer got serious about writing after he retired in 1997. He draws his inspiration from the many emotions we experience in life. He has published Of Sunshine and Clouds with iUniverse and The Winding Road with Shadow Poetry. He’s also published in Snippets, The Magic of Words and several issues of Golden Words.

  1. I enjoyed this lovely write, Marcus; those were the days when life was so much different; pity our young generation will never be able to really understand what it's all about. love the shooting star ending. // paul

  3. Hi, Marcus, I, too, enjoy your title and to me, the magic is very much there in the sun and moon, in the sky and mountain scenery and all the beautiful artistry God provides us for inspiration and growth. Beautiful poem! Sheri / www.poetryandbeyond.net

  6. Hi Marcus:
Your poem with its wonderful meter captures the spirit of those days...carefree,
innocent pursuits and yes a magic that sadly no longer exists.
    Best,

  7. Marcus, I really felt the nostalgia in your poem. It was very well written and yes the magic of those days gone by, seem yet to linger in our minds. As I think on my own younger days and the make believe world that captivated my attention many times I relieve the happiness that came with it.. Maybe we ought to do a little more fantasizing even in our older years. Thank you for sharing your talent.
