New Delhi Railroad Station--By Isha Wagner--New Zealand

New Delhi Railroad Station

Hot, tired, dusty, out of sync
to the station staggering luggage
Swarms of beings standing, bending, lying
Dark beautiful faces with eyes that bind
Making you think of God
And his strange creation.
Breathing, sheer force of life, exhaling
Stinking smells, flower perfume mingling
Drifting, mouths gabbling unknown languages
Floating the air, shouts, whispers
Stares, trains in, trains out
Monks shaven heads, tranquil looks
Turbans, beards abound
Babies who choke you with emotion
Their innocence lit so bright

My head hurts, my throat hurts
I want to see it as a movie
Lights, camera, action
But the Director makes no cuts
I am a bit player.

Isha Wagner is a New Zealand poet. She has resided in many countries including Iceland, Libya, India, and Australia.  She read some of her work at the VIII International Poetry Festival held in Granada, Nicaragua, in February 2012. She has had three collections of poetry published.

  1. I like your poem.
    Thanks for sharing.

  2. Dear Isha,

A very well expressed visual moment of observation of ones surroundings. As we travel from one destination to the next, sometimes we feel like an outsider when we are worn down by the struggle to live in our lives. Thank you for sharing your poetry with us.

  3. I traveled to India many times in the 1980's. I've thought many times of experience you describe. I could never put it into words--at least not accurate / believeable ones. Good job. Thank you gor the memory.

  4. filled with bustle and energy - paints a great picture. Nice talking to another NZ poet

  5. Hello, Isha - Your poem paints a wonderful portrait of life unique in its circumstances and surroundings - - and yet, does it? We are all in this life together, virtually going through the same things together and what is so amazing is that humans are the most creative, adaptive and ever filled with hope! That is what is so wonderfully amazing! Your poem is awesome to read! Sheri

  6. Hi Isha. Thank you for sharing your creativity with us. I enjoyed reading "New Delhi Railroad Station." Very nicely-described poem. Continued blessings!
