Sing Sweetly My Soul--By Gerald Heyder--United States

Sing Sweetly My Soul

I wish to hear sweet music
without meaningless words,
a soft flowing melody
that can fly like a bird.
Let dulcet notes of heavenly pitch
ring forth like flute and lyre
with passion tempered tenderly
as a glowing ember of fire.
Sing sweetly my soul
to banish sin in this world;
let veil of sleep wrap me
in dream’s banner unfurled.
Perhaps an angelic cherub
will soothe my shackles away
to bring me somewhat closer
to Shangri-La some day.
This orb may be my temporary home
though despise this clanging sphere;
my soul please sing sweetly
to bring heaven ever so near.

  1. Gerald, I agree music has its own lovely language. It is the gift that changes how we think and feel. I believe that music inspires poetry and they complement each other beautifully. A very nice offering Gerald. I enjoyed the journey it took me on. Blessings, Connie

  2. Dear Gerald,
    I like the way you end-rhyme without forcing--they come naturally, almost inevitably--one reason, among others, why your poem is so successful. Do write again!
