To What We Lost--By Jack Horne--England

To What We Lost

As you leave,
I pass you a poppy
in remembrance of our love,
bloody and battered.
It died on life's battlefield,
another casualty,
another number.
Wear your poppy with pride
and remember me.

Jack Horne enjoys reading and writing poetry.

  1. Hi, there, Jack! We are so blessed to have the opportunity to read you quite often here on Whispers! This seems to be about the 3rd time in November! That is so awesome! Your poem is very touching and to signify a deep emotion with poppy as its metaphor is very clever and exceptionally meaningful! A poppy seems so humble as compared to other flowers. Very creative and very clever! Sheri

  2. Dear Jack,

Such touching and heartfelt words in this thoughtful write. You said so much in so few words in honor of those who fought bravely in the world's wars. A very well written poem and excellent use of the poppy as a metaphor, my friend.

    Love Sandra

  3. Hi Jack! Metaphorically speaking this is superb. A fitting poem for this time of the year dedicated to those who fight and give up their lives with pride for their homeland. Well done! // paul

  4. I am seventy-three years old, and this year's tributes to military personnel and their families outdid everything past. Memorials were mostly tearful, especially when it was a survivor singing a patriotic song. Thank you Jack for remembering the sacrifices made by so many.

  7. Hi Jack. What a beautiful poem that reminds me of a rendition.of a scene in an old black and white movie. Very nice, if I remember the movie correctly. Very nice poem as well. Thank you for sharing and continued blessings!
