Early Lesson
Outside a house
where I lived
when I was six,
a bed of cactus grew.
Flat green pads
flourished
in the rocky soil.
Long before
beautiful yellow
flowers appeared,
I’d learned
about spiny thorns.

Yes - my little son lived the hard way as well. The worst were those little hairy ones!

Hi Eleanor,
ReplyDeleteI really liked this poem and yes, there are many thorns in life but we do find the
flowers bloom as a result. Cactus have the most beautiful flowers and I have lots
of them and succulents. It is a delight when they do bloom.
Kind Regards,
Yvonne Sparkes
This is a beautiful work of art. Life is full of its various thorns, but every once in a while we get to enjoy the blooms that come from these trying times.
