A Day When Winter Said Goodbye--By Rick Parise--United States

~A Day When Winter Said Goodbye~

In the midst of morn she quietly rose
to greet the dawn of silent repose

She searched beyond the frozen hills
and through the bough's of crystal frills

She danced in dream as clouds rolled by
in hopes the sun would pierce the sky

As moments passed nil of light
the wind kicked up with all it's might

In tumbling turmoil the west winds raged
in fluttering beauty to turn the page

Within a breath a single sigh
the Winter wrath had waved goodbye

As sunlight burned of velvet white
upon her face a shaft of light...

  1. What a fantastically vivid picture you've created with this poem. I was right there in that blinding moment when the sun hit the new snow.

  2. Hi Rick, I love the way this poem flows with perfect rhyme and meter. But even more I love the use of personification to show the change of seasons in such a creative way. You've always been a great writer, my friend. Best wishes, Carolyn Devonshire

  3. Wonderful and expressive poem, Rick. I love it. Thanks for the gripping details. Winter, with all its beauty and cold, has to eventually wave goodbye to another season. -MJ

  4. Rick I loved the poem and you accomplished your purpose, to take this reader to a meaningful, personal time in my life, I glory in the spring as new life bursts forth from winter hibernation.

  5. Dear Rick -

You are an artist, although this painting could not be captured on one canvass alone. You've written so beautifully about the tides of life.

  6. Winter has her place, but always happy when she passes. Spring is a new beginning for all. Beautiful write!
