Power Within--By Charlene McCutcheon--United States

Power Within

What an incredible source of power I have
At my fingertips every minute of every day,
If I live in gratitude; for true Thanksgiving is
Thanks living and opens the door to 'the way'.

Give and it shall be given, benefits galore.
Blessings come via gratitude, I've been told.
It is the opposite of what one would think.
To God, "I want more", must really get old.

The natural man focuses on insufficiency.
He'll work hard to gain the whole world
That without notice can all be wiped out,
Shattered hopes and fond dreams spoiled.

Sometimes it takes something really drastic
To change a heart hardened in self and lack.
But God knew the way to change my heart.
Peace and love is not found in another snack.

To overcome my tendency to turn to treats,
In times of tribulation and emotional stress
To find peace and love, I must forget myself,
Kindly think of others and give loving service.

    1. Peter, how lovely that you should share with me your thoughts. Thank you. I was just missing my deceased dad today whose name is Peter. I had the feeling when I read your comment that my dad was looking down on me and telling me good job honey.

  4. Very inspirational Charlene - so nice reading you this evening. The world needs a bit more love, doesn't it - but, if not love then just a bit more understanding of the neighbor who is struggling just to survive. Wonderful post...

  6. Dear Charlene,
You are quite an amazing writer. When I got to the second verse, I realized how much we think alike. In giving to others, we gain happiness for ourselves. And surely our Lord receives far more prayers of petition than prayers of thanks. The third verse made me think of the people in the Philippines who lost everything as soon as the typhoon hit. My heart goes out to those who saw their hopes and dreams spoiled overnight. I'm not sure if every hardened heart can be changed, but many folks turn to food to try and suppress their loneliness and despair. Your message is filled with great wisdom and I do believe you will be able to conquer your taste for treats. It's hard, but it can be done. Excellent work! Thank you for supporting so many writers on this site. Love and blessings, Carolyn Devonshire

    1. Carolyn my dear, thank you so much for your kind words. I think we must be sisters at heart. I am conquering my tendency to turn to sweets for solace as I instead to turn to the Lord in prayer and thanks living.

  8. Inspiring and thought provoking your words ring out clearly. Sometimes we forget just how lucky we are focusing merely on the negatives rather than what we already have. Even to think back a few hundred years and look at the type of existence we may have then had without mod cons, medicine, computers... life has improved so much and yet we ask for more... Sometimes we need be broken to be moulded to new direction/ways... Sometimes there is greater purpose in new situations where we just do not know the greater plan and how we/others fit to that... Thanks for drawing the mind deeper through this write... Enjoyed my visit!

    1. Ana, thank you so much for taking the time to comment and open up your heart with these words. You are so right and it is so easy because it is the natural man that dwells on the negative. God can help us overcome that bad habit. I am living proof. :D
