Thoughts for the Homeless--By Peter Dome--United Kingdom

Thoughts for the Homeless

Some times in winter
when the cold winds bite
I go out for a walk
on a freezing night
to feel what the homeless on the street
must feel
on the cold concrete
longing for warmth
shelter
and a meal

And love.

Hi, my name is Pete. I live in Sheffield, U.K. I hope you enjoy my poems. I look forward to reading yours. My best wishes. Pete.

  1. This touches my heart, Peter! Thank you for sharing this with us.. for your empathy. A worldwide situation that continues to grow. And unless each of us realizes that in any given 24 hours we could be where the homeless are. Well done!

  2. I really appreciate this compassionate view of the homeless. It reminds me that even though I cannot offer any assistance for homeless people I can sure pray for them and be grateful, I myself have a roof over my head. Thank you for sharing this heart felt poem.

  4. I just can't imagine to be homeless. I think here in America if anyone is homeless or a person goes to sleep without food is a crime against our Government. Loving words 'Snook', from your loving heart...

  5. Hello Peter,

Your poem brought tears to my eyes. One very cold night my sister and I went to New York to see a Broadway play. I was younger then and had never seen people sleeping in pieces of cardboard or on the steps in Grand Central Station. That image was brought to mind as I read your beautifully written poem. Love and blessings, Carolyn Devonshire

  6. Thank you, Christine Tate, for the following comment--

Hi Peter, Your poem was a reminder to me of those less fortunate and the things we take for granted. How touching your words were, to experience the elements and imagine the hunger the homeless often feel. Thanks for sharing a lovely poem. It reveals your heart. God Bless you.

  7. I've written on this subject myself a while back, it's hard to understand how these people have fallen to this state and how they cope out there as I don't think I could ever do it! It must be frightening to sleep with others passing by, not knowing who they might be nor what they might be about. I heard a true story a few years back now that told of how one person's life was completely changed when a stranger simply took them for a hot coffee in Mc D's... it was sitting down and talking to this person that crucial friendships were developed - it turned out the person did not have the skills nor understanding to get them out of the situation. Not knowing what help might be available where... I believe this person to now be in a secure job with roof over head... What a difference that glimpse of humanity/love/Christianity from another had on this occasion. How little the cost and how much better than dolling out cash when often this can be spent on alcohol adding to confused state... Definitely food for further thought - thanks for the timely reminder especially as we enter the bite of frosts and winter approaching. As you can see your poetry has prompted further thought... Thank you for sharing...

  9. Peter, thank you for your poem. I too share your sentiment for the homeless. No one should be out on the cold and oftentimes dangerous streets. I enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing.
