‘Tis Now the Hour to Rest My Head
‘Tis now the hour to rest my head
As I lay down inside my bed.
To my Heav’nly Father I pray
For He’s been with me through this day.
Forgive me for what I’ve done wrong.
Lord, be with me this whole night long.
Your great almighty, powerful eye
Looks down at me from in the sky.
Dear Christ, I know that you’re there, too.
My prayers also go to you.
Just like the Father you are there
When I put forth my evening prayer.
And as I close my eyes and sleep,
God, you and Christ, your vigils keep.
You’ll be with me this whole night through
And when the day begins anew.

Hello, Suzanne, thank you for allowing us the privilege of reading you! My family and I gather together at night before putting the babies to bed and we pray. Your prayers ( it is a prayer to me ) is similar to how we pray together, so it really touched my spirit! I love the humility, it is so elegant! Sheri

Dear Suzanne,
ReplyDeleteThis beautiful prayer is one we should say each night. Sure, we may have days when we feel we have gone astray, but our Lord is forgiving and always with us. Bless you for sharing this. Best wishes, Carolyn Devonshire

Thank you, Christine Tate, for the following comment-
ReplyDeleteHi Suzanne, Beautiful poem! To pray unceasingly as Paul taught, and as we rest our heads my husband and I also give thanks to the Lord for the day, asking Him to watch over us before we drift off to sleep. The Lord never slumbers, but is faithful to guard us throughout the night too! Thanks for a lovely inspiration. God Bless you!
Thank you everyone for these lovely comments for Suzanne. I will send them too her. Suzanne, I'm glad others enjoyed your poem like I did. Wishing you continued success with your writing.
