cloudy morning-
a kite flies higher
than its string
_______________
that full moon-
a coin falls into
the beggar's palm
_______________
distant gunfire-
ivy leaves creep along
the old ruins
_______________
wailing wall-
the priest leans against
his own shadow
_______________
moonless sky-
military raincoats hung
on a bamboo fence

Hi! Rita:
ReplyDeleteA string of little gems.
I particularly like the last haiku in which the zoom-in technique is effectively employed.
L1 successfully sets the emotive context while Ls 2&3 open up an interpretative space for the reader's emotions and reflection -- what's left unsaid (such as violence implied in "military raincoats" and separation indicated in "fence") is more significant than what's stated.

I am very thankful to you for taking the time to write me your feedback, Chen-ou.
DeleteHaiku is an interesting genre because it requires an active reader who has to dig the unsaid. Your feedback completed my image and added another layer to it. I enjoyed reading your skilled analysis of the symbols. Thank you so much.
I love haiku, Rita. And these are brilliant! So much said in so few words. Well done! Lisa

Excellent haiku, Rita. Each one has a memorable image. All are great and my favorites are the ones about the wailing wall and the full moon. Nice touch having it fall into the beggar's hand. Welcome to Whispers! Best wishes, Carolyn
