Sympathy for Charlie Brown
Although as a kid
I never got bags of rocks
or had to model
for Jack o’lantern carving
the way that Charlie Brown did
in the special that
is shown on television
around the time of
Hallowe’en in October,
I understand his feelings
because as a kid
I was sometimes subjected
to verbal abuse
from some of the students who
went to the school I did.

ReplyDeleteSuzanne, Charlie Brown is one of America's favorite characters because he represents the common man -- his achievements are overlooked and his mistakes are made public. What a powerful ending! I'm sorry you had to deal with the abuse, but there are many people who went through the same thing. Chin up, Suzanne. ReplyDeleteI can identify. I was one of the kids who was teased and tormented throughout junior and senior high school. Luckily in college, everyone falls into their own clique, so I was accepted by somebody.
