My Lifeboat--By Shirley Smothers--United States

My Lifeboat

The Whirlpools of loneliness
were pulling me down.
You were my lifeboat.

With all my effort
I forced myself
to push towards you.

Your kisses, your smiles
your touch, saved me
from my lonely life.

To My Love,
Scott Smothers

  1. Your poem is a wonderful attestation to that 'bond". There seems to be a slight "echo" and it is one of a certain familiarity......... beautiful! Sheri

  2. Dear Shirley,

I'm so glad your husband has given you inspiration to write such a beautiful poem. Many of us are lonely and need a lifeboat like Scott. Give him a kiss for me. This is how true love should be. Best wishes, Carolyn Devonshire

  3. The glow of your feelings shine brightly within your words. You touch my heart - yes, I am single, but so nice reading something so lovely. I usually don't respond well to romance/love poetry - this is an exception to my rule...

    1. Thank you Rhoda. This poem did touch my husbands heart. It's a short poem but sums up my feelings. I was not as lonely as the poem describes but I feel blessed to have him.
      Thank you again.

    1. Thank you Charlene. I actually wrote this poem in December 2009. I wrote it shortly after my Fathers death. Scott was my crutch during this time and I wanted to thank him.
      Thank you,
      Shirley

  6. I have shared in the joy of this one; I have had 41 years with my husband and best friend and consider that I have been truly blessed because of it. Thank you for this wonderful poem.

    1. Thank you Pam. Scott and I have been married 32 years. Like your husband Scott is my best friend. He should be. Who else would tolerate my bad days along with my good days, and still tell me he loves me before bedtime every night.
      Thanks

    1. Thanks Robert. Yes we do have a special bond. Scott is there for me during good, bad, rough seas and calm. Sort of like our Saviour.

Scott and I have seen the good, the bad and we rely on each other to keep going. I feel our Saviour has helped us to show our children to never give up on themselves or others.
      Thank you
