The SMILE Lady
There's a woman I know that
Edits a poetry publication called SMILE.
She's been doing it for quite awhile.
She prints just about every
Poem, story or letter
From her subscribers, and yet
With each issue the magazine
Seems to get better and better.
She's not doing it for wealth
And she's been battling with her health.
Though I'm just over 40 and she's over 80
To me, she'll always be "SMILE Lady".
Dedicated to Joyce M. Johnson, Editor of Smile

Thank you! This is a lovely dedication to a beautiful soul who shares her "poet's voice"..... of course, I will be contacting you after this is posted. It is a wonderful place to be, that is, becoming a servant to writers and sharing the joy of it all! Thank you, again, for sharing this beautiful tribute to a beautiful soul for all of us out here to enjoy! Whispers is another such place! God bless! Sheri / www.poetryandbeyond.net

ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments. In regards to your e-mail for me to be a feature, I would love to -- thanks for the invitation. As for Joyce M. Johnson, the "SMILE Lady" in the poems probably wouldn't want to be featured she usually just writes for her own journal and it has taken a lot of prodding from the other poets to get her even to do that. But Karen is contacting her about this poem so she will be able to answer for herself.
Your friend,
David Fox
Nice Dedication, David. You expressed the kindness of your heart in a creative and tender poem. Great job, my friend. Continued blessings!

Dear David, has Joyce seen this? She would love it. I've known her for years and she's never mentioned her "Smile" publication to me. How I would love to read it. A fine tribute to one of my favorite people! Love and blessings, Carolyn
ReplyDeleteCarolyn,
ReplyDeleteI'm sure she'd love to have you. Here is her current address. I'm sure she'd love it if you submit: 250A Heritage Village, Southbury, CT 06488.

Hi David,
ReplyDeleteThe SMILE lady sounds like a lovely person and just as equally the tribute you have written for her. Thank you for sharing this with us and look forward to more of your poetry in the future.

Everyone,
ReplyDeleteJon W. (Bill) Williams has just told me that Joyce M. Johnson, sais "SMILE Lady", is no longer publishing her magazine. I give it up to her for continuing with it for 20 years. She suggests to all her subscribers (some of which are members here) to submit their poems to other places. I will be printing a tribute to her in my magazine. Anyone who knows her who has something to add, feel free to e-mail me.
