unknown land
there are waves
coming endlessly
against the coral reefs
being shelled
with mysteries
that only the sea can know
and the tall hopes
coming bravely
like daring seafarers
to an unknown land
that only you can know
_______________
When the Tall Ships came to Lake Ontario when I was young, my mother and I walked down to watch the majestic vessel sailing proudly toward us. Later, she translated her experience of this vision into this poem, where the Tall Ships are symbolic of the tall hopes that move courageously through our lives, guiding us to a beautiful unknown part of ourselves. -- Nila J. Webster

ReplyDeleteHello Nila. Thank you for sharing another one of your precious mom's poems. This is a picture-perfect poem that personally speaks to me. As a child, my father was in the Navy and I remember when one of the huge ships he worked on would come and dock in the St. Joe River in St. Joseph, MI. This brings back memories. Continued blessings to you!
