Depth Charges--By Isha Wagner--New Zealand

Depth Charges

May I come and knock on your door
I'm from Calcutta, one of the poor
I'll arrive in the dead time of night
Perhaps you'll switch on some light

If by chance you toss me away
Silence is all that I will say
I'll turn my head in another direction
Slither to a new dimension

My wandering time will but seek
To bathe with the moon at my feet
Rats will nibble my ten toes
Calcutta's gates will swing to a close

May I come and knock on your door
I surely haven't done that before.

Isha Wagner is a New Zealand poet. She has resided in many countries including Iceland, Libya, India, and Australia.  She read some of her work at the VIII International Poetry Festival held in Granada, Nicaragua, in February 2012. She has had three collections of poetry published.

  1. Dear Isha,
Thank you for your sonnet, "Depth Charges." Your unique title drew me in. Like especially the opening couplet of stanza three; your sonnet provides a nice turn and denouement. More Please!!
    Cheers,
    Michael
