Daddy
My Brother
called you back
from the edge
of death.
But you were
in so much
pain, and you
had suffered enough.
We said good bye,
My Mother, My Sister,
My Brother and I.
We held each
other and we
did cry.
The day that
you left us.
The day
that you died.

A very touching tribute to your dad and the love you and you your brother had for him and still have for his memory. I feel the same way about my dad and he passed away in 1961.

Thank You. This is not my best work but it is heartfelt.

Shirley,
ReplyDeleteMy heart remembered losing my dad as I read your sincere poem. A very nice one full of love. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Love, Charlene
Charlene thank you. This was a heartfelt poem. I'm sorry that I brought back painful memories. But it took me over three and a half years to write about my Father. This has helped.
DeleteThank you for sharing.

Shirley, this hits close to home for me. My brother and sister were with me at the hospital when my father had his stroke. He lingered for days until the doctors said there was no hope of him living a normal life. Then his living will was read and he said not to worry or feel sad as he welcomed eternal life. It made it easier to turn off the respirator. God bless you for sharing this beautiful poem. It meant a lot to me. Have a merry Christmas, Carolyn Devonshire
ReplyDeleteThank you Carolyn. Your words brought tears to my eyes. I'm glad this could help. It's a simple poem but heartfelt. A love ones death is never easy. I just hope it's a few years before I have to go through this again.
ReplyDeleteThank you again

Thank you, David Austin, for the following comment--
ReplyDeleteLove the simplicity of her style.
Thank you David. I do try to write my poems simply. I have a lot of friends that don't like long wordy poems. I try to write from the heart. And this poem was from the heart.
DeleteThank you for your words of encouragement. This means a lot.

Dear Shirley -
ReplyDeleteThe depth of feeling captured so simply in your words is breathtaking. You express such sad love and devotion wanting to relieve the pain as it is transferred to those of us who stay. I can't imagine this is not one of your best with the emotion it evokes.
love,
Kathy
Thank you Kathryn. This is very nice of you. It's not my favorite writing but it came from the heart. The anniversary of my Father's death was Monday. I sent the poem via E-Mail to my Sister (my Mom doesn't have E-Mail). My sister shared it with her and she says they both cried. This poem does make me cry.
DeleteThank You once again

ReplyDeleteThis is exactly how it is!
Thank you Linda. Writing this poem has helped me deal with my loss. Although he has been gone four years, I have only recently been able to write about it.
DeleteThank you for your kind words.

Hi Shirley. Good seeing you here on Whispers. Your poem is a touching tribute to your father. My father passed away last year and I echo every line and verse of your poem, missing him. Thank you for sharing this.

Thank you Maurice. I am sorry for your loss. It's hard to lose a parent. My Father passed in 2009. I have only recently been able to write about it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words.
Thank you, Richard Sponaugle, for the following comment--
ReplyDeleteShort, heartfelt and excellent. Reminds us that endless suffering's worse than death. But it's still sad for loved one to pass away.
Thank You Richard,
DeleteThis poem was my ode to my Father. I wanted to write about him earlier but could not bring myself to do so. My Father was not perfect but he was my Dad, and I will Love him forever.
Thanks,
Shirley
