It Fills My Eye
I cried a tear for yesterday
It’s memories come hauntingly
And, yet as joy faced in the morrow
Promises were mine to borrow
Still in the mirror of passing time
My tears fall freely, oh, so softly
As if life’s ghosts are taunting me
Filling my pores so thoughtlessly
As if my pores held misery
That isn’t true; that isn’t real
I write this while I pray; I kneel
So thankful now, this finite test
Has given me the very best
While I remain so very blessed
'Tis I, a temporary guest
Of life and all there is to share
The greatest joy is that you care
And what a joy to have you near
It fills my eye a grateful tear

It is my pleasure. When one has the privilege to sign on and reap the rewards of being among other writers, there comes a certain moral obligation with that privilege and that is to comment on others' works and postings and to "mingle" as it were........ thank you so much for the welcome! Much appreciated - God bless, Sheri
DeleteA wonderful write much enjoyed, well done. best wishes. Pete.

DeleteSheri, I so much enjoyed your well written poem that expressed so well, hope in spite of sorrow. I think of the words in a hymn we sing in church. "There is hope smiling brightly before us and we know that deliverance is nigh." And the words, "this too shall pass." I am looking forward to reading more of your poems. So glad you are part of this fun community of poets.
ReplyDeleteLove, Charlene

DeleteJust beautiful, Sheri! What struck me most was a very simple phrase... "finite test." For each and every test, those that bring the tears we shed, is indeed only for a moment. And meant to stretch our faith, not destroy it. You said it perfectly! I'm blessed by your words. Lisa
ReplyDeleteGee, Lisa, thank you for such lovely remarks! In the end result, it is remarks such as yours and these preceding yours which opens the doors to inspiration - thank you so much! Sheri
DeleteThis poem resonates with me. You sum up life perfectly, as only you can do. I love the phrase "'Tis I, a temporary guest of life and all there is to share"...life holds much joy, and sorrow; memories can move us to tears or laughter. Beautiful words, my friend.
