Treasures--By Maurice J. Reynolds--United States

Treasures

Treasures are not so much
the silver and gold that most
everyone seems to desire
but they are things that are
sometimes small and simple
yet still an abundance of joy.
The birth of a child,
a wedding anniversary
of many years,
a family reunion,
watching our children grow
from a child into maturity,
the accomplishment of that
long and sometimes elusive goal,
singing a simple song,
writing a poem,
viewing the beauty of creation,
basking in the love of God.
These are the types of treasures
that mean so much.

Greetings Rev. Reynolds. Your poem was beautiful. Yes, if we only count our possessions and money as treasures we are missing the most beautiful gifts that come from the Lord, so many free of charge! I truly enjoyed reading your lovely inspiring words. Thanks for the blessing! God Bless you, Chris~

  12. Thank you, Karen and Jack for your encouraging comment. Sometimes we can get so caught up in the day to day hoopla of things that we forget the finer things in life.

  13. You have well-defined the treasures of this finite which in times of struggle we sometimes tend to overlook or ignore. These are the moments that define us and it is odd that in hard times perhaps we might not "see" the glorious blessings we have in our midst. How uncanny and yet I guess that is a part of learning life........ a joy to read you..... Sheri

  15. Maurice, this is an inspiring and truthful poem. The glitter of gold and silver is not everything that can light up our lives. God-given things, though simple( like one`s talent or family or friends ), are a truly fulfilling treasure. Blessings to you!

  16. You remind us here that it is indeed the simplicities of life so often taken for granted that are the true values of which without we would feel most bereft and less full in self. To lose these things would indeed feel like the loss of a limb and more... We are not meant to live alone and lonely, how much more then should we think of those who are and not want for things materialistic and of greed... How lucky are those that are of peace with one another... Thanks for sharing.

Only someone so devout could write something so simple yet so thought provoking about God and things we often take for granted. A poem that stays with you.
