From the Archives—Featuring Connie Marcum Wong

Dear Whispers’ Readers,

It is a joy to travel back into our Whispers’ archives and read gems from past issues.  I opened our 2013 file, wanting find a piece on inspiration, which as you see is the title of Connie’s poem.  Talk about connecting!  Connie uses irregular rhyme to give her verse a lyrical quality that flows from line to line. Her multi-sense imagery adds another artistic element.  Poetry is an art form in a concise package—details matter. Connie is adept at various creative elements and hones forms to capture her unique voice.  This poem was originally published December 15, 2013.  Congratulations Connie!  Thank you being a light at Whispers and in the poetry community at large.

Sincerely,

Karen O’Leary—Whispers’ Editor

Inspiration

I never knew I’d be in heaven
In the autumn of my years;
Or that I’d be immerged
In the brilliant art of words,
Or float above operatic notes,
Or view ballet through
My elated tears.
I never thought I’d meet
Inspiration face to face,
Or feel it rise within me
With a poet’s surrendering grace.
I just know that I’m contented
As profound love keeps flowing
From my impassioned heart.
This is the gift that artists
Of this world yearn to impart.
