Special Feature Translation Poem--By Gert Knop--Germany

Frühlingsboten—German

Der Winter ist vergangen,
und mit ihm, was in seinem Griffe lag,
und die Natur erholt sich wieder,
von ihrer Schlafensruh.
Der Himmel jetzt, so klar,
lässt uns vergessen
die winterliche Zeit, die grauen Tage

Und Vögel singen ihre Lieder neu.
Die ersten Blumen zeigen sich
auf zuvor stillen Feldern.
Und überall im Wald,
ganz frisches Grün in neuen Trieben,
tritt schnell hervor
aus leerem, braunem Spreu

Messengers of Spring—English

Winter has passed,
and with it what layed in its grasp,
and nature is recovering,
from its sleeping rest.
The sky now, so clear
let us forget
the winter time, the gray days

And birds are singing their songs anew.
First flowers show up
on previously silent fields.
And everywhere in the forest,
fresh green in new shoots,
dash forward
from empty, brownish chaff

  8. It is a delight to be able to read a poem in three languages and see the words as they make sense from foreign to familiar. Sometimes I play with a poem written in another language not knowing what it means but going with how it feels. Words move us in every language. Thankyou for this gift. Best, Suzanne

  9. Dear Gert,

I enjoyed reading your poem, so elegantly beautiful. The Spanish language is rather exotic to me but English and German I understand well and your translation is perfect.
    Thanks, dear Friend for sharing.

    1. Ja, liebe Inge, ich weiß, dass Englisch und Deutsch für Dich leicht zu verstehen ist. Wenn ich nicht einige Jahre in Chile gelebt hätte, könnte ich bestimmt kein Spanish! I hope it is OK when I'm replying in German! Alles Gute und ganz liebe Grüße, Gert

  10. Beautiful work. Love this, Gert. Apart from English, I can only speak a little French, so I really enjoy seeing how your poems are in German & Spanish.

    1. Dear Jack, I also speak some French, but it isn't sufficient for a French translation different to my Spanish.Loved your comment!

  11. Loved all three! I especially enjoyed honing up on my Spanish translation and pronunciation from high school days:long ago. Though I am not a linguist, I love listening to a person speak Spanish, because it sounds so romantic to me. I of course loved the English version and it was eloquent. Well done.
    Sincerly, Charlene
