Misty Flats--By Kristina M. Hooper--United States

Misty Flats

Wandering the misty flats,
searching high and low;
what do I seek, here and there,
I do not even know.

Something pulls my soul to roam
the meadows far and wide;
a constant ache deep within,
a need I cannot hide.

Her mystery speaks to me,
dark secrets are revealed;
upon the moors, solitude,
where heart and mind are healed.

As I wander misty flats,
your presence feels so near;
alone I walk, wrapped in love,
with nothing more to fear.

Dedicated to my father who passed away January 13, 2011

  1. Oh! I am so elated to read your awesome writings once again. Losing someone we love is so difficult and yet I see in your words you have accepted this as a very spiritual experience and in the inner growth of climbing another rung on the ladder to God............. wow! So beautiful, Krissie - just like you! Sheri

    1. Sheri, you are too sweet and kind. Dad's death was sad, yet one of the most beautiful things I've witnessed...he was ready, and right with his Maker. This is a very personal piece, and 'wandering the misty flats' was one of my Dad's favorite expressions. Thank you for reading, my friend.

  2. Beautiful Krissie and so wonderful to remember your dad in such a warm way. My dad and I were real close, I still think of him often and he passed on 53 years ago this June. So good to see you on Whispers and read for you again. Robert

    1. And it's so wonderful to see your comments again, my friend. Thank you for encouraging me. My Dad as a poet as well, and I believe he passed his talent down to me. I am most fortunate - he was an amazing father.

  3. I really loved the pensive reflection in this poem. If the eyes are the window to the soul, how you have discovered peace and healing from a very poignant experience is reflected in this poem and shows you found it. A beautiful well written poem. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Charlene, I thank you for your kind words. I miss my Dad terribly, but I know he is at peace. He would always say he was 'wandering the misty flats', something he was told as a young boy. I thank you for taking the time to read. Love, Kristina

  8. Dear Kristina -

    Oh how I know that quiet, foggy sense of loss and not quite intangible warmth of arms around the shoulders. It is a sad thing, this cycle. I'm sorry for your enormous loss.

    love,
