Racialized Chinese Canadians
(a haiku sequence written in response to The Accidental Asian by Eric Liu, Bill Clinton's deputy domestic policy adviser and speech writer)

all she sees in the mirror
are slanted eyes
chinks go home!
the spit on my face
cold as snow
chinks go home!
again and again
he scrubs his hand

Wow! This hurts! And, although we are so very much aware of all the prejudice all over this globe, it still hurts that we have regressed even further each time. God forgive us! Sheri
ReplyDeletea brave poem and sorry there is so much hate and disdain
ReplyDeleteWritten by a poet with racial sensibilities...I am the wife of a Chinese/Hawaiian and I never even think about it unless someone makes a snide remark, and then I consider the source and don't let it concern me. Blessings for the Holiday season, Connie
ReplyDeleteSad but powerful. Enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing, Chen-ou Liu, and continued blessings!
