Back To Being Me--By Michael Todd--United States

Back To Being Me (sonnet)

Looking back to a time when you were mine,
Superficial thoughts supposed, I resign.
No fight left in me, don't want to malign,
Conceding, campaign in a state of decline.

For those who don't know me, seems I lack spine;
For those that know me well, it's about time.
Not sure how I got this down, by design?
Comfort zone of late, shadows, time to shine.

Wasted borrowed time, built a hollow shrine;
How two went into one, just can't define;
Clear now, my chosen two can't intertwine.
I might, if asked, like some cheese with my whine.

Go where I'm wanted, things will work out fine;
Stop the world and let me on... my punch line.

    3. Never mind that jewelry box, Deanna. We will go to the mall and hit all the best kiosks, and you can sport all new stuff. That is what budgets are for.

  2. You're shining quite well with this poem, Michael. ☺ I especially liked this: "wasted borrowed time". Haven't we all been there?

  4. This floors Myke. If you are going whine , then shine with a rhyme of beauty in a sonnet so fine

    1. Colleen... the video will just feature Deanna, brandishing a microphone, in place of her famous iced tea glass. I will just be one of the guys wearing dark robes, chanting a druid bass line, like some sort of human beat box.

      Thanks so much for visiting me here, our on The Moors, on my weekend get away. Now, would you prefer red or white, M'Lady?

  9. Ah Myke, you seem to have quite the fan club. Perhaps, whilst thou art basking in the depths of "borrowed time" - thou art submitting to the passions of thy muse. in which case producing magical words and journeys such as "Back To Being Me"...... my final update response is WOW! Sheri

  10. ..... and, I might add very clever with the right touch of cynicism and humor. Yes, and life does go on....................

    1. Sheri... I am cynical to a fault and cryptic even in the cold light of day. I do work on spinning all that toward a clever end. Sometimes it works, other times, not so well. ;)

  11. Isn't it something Michael that we can run from many things but not from ourselves. Clever poem. Enjoyed reading it! Best wishes, ~Chris
