the clean new notebook
is screaming to be filled up
before you can sleep
everything you write
was in your brain too long
and you just want sleep
pages turning quick
unspoken words tumbling out
distracting your yawns
candles watch your pen
so no one else will wake up
because of your light
eighteen pages in
you don't want to stop until
your slobber pools ink
which dries on your face
and mumbles of time moving
too fast while you nap

Dear Rich,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the personifications contained in your poem. It is a new adventure to think of my notebook as "screaming"--but I think you're right!
Blessings,
Michael
