My Hand of Dark Joy--By Ojo Taiye--Nigeria

My Hand of Dark Joy

i am the broken river
in a man’s body

on my nape is a stain
my father is the stain

i wear it loudly
and each time mama

bites her tongue for rain
i singe for salvation

from this fakir
whose grin desalts my soul

Ojo Taiye is a young Nigerian who uses poetry as a handy tool to hide his frustration with the society. He loves books and Anime in that order.

  1. Dear Ojo,
Thank you for this poem, which, while dark as indicated by your title, surely emanates from a sensitive heart.
    Blessings,
