The Art of Slow Dancing--By J. T. Milford--United States

The Art of Slow Dancing

After we learned the different steps
We destroyed the trees and grass
Abused with violence animals and our neighbors
Continued to dance while reading our holy books
Stripped down mountains and plundered valleys
Fought many wars over whose god is right
Still dancing we tried again to make slaves of workers
Ignored Malthus and procreated excessively
Poisoned the flowers and ourselves with chemicals
Our dance then took Einstein and Fermi's science
To its most horrible conclusion
When the apocalyptic winds came with a sinister sound
Our dance stopped
Except for the machinery there was nothing left
But the slow dance of sparkling stars in pure space

J. T. Milford is a retired CPA who has just completed his first book of poetry.
