Triptych of an Iceberg*
Birth of an iceberg
By Elly Wouterse and Victoria Anderson Throop
frost kissed mountain
vanished in molecules
immortalized
memories settle birthing
an iceberg
crystal clear
fragile hearts
broken blue
married to sea green
forever severed
from a glacial safety
mighty jagged crack
embedded
in the groin of the sea
shaking ships on the horizon of its wake
nature's power
captures
all consuming peak of joy
off and away
icebound
unreachable
in the highest moment of bliss
beauty yearns
for the sky inhales the blue rips free
with a shattering cry of joy
breaks into thousand pieces
bobbing ....
sedately.... out to sea....
*The rest of this Triptych will be published in March at Whispers.
Wow, I love how you two blend your thoughts and words into a marvelous journey and word painting! Juxtaposition blends and weaves delicately out of the body of Nature! How creative! Sheri

DeleteElly and Victoria, I am really enjoying your poem. I would like to print it out for my father who was stationed up in Greenland in the 1950s. He would enjoy your poem so much, too. It truly captures the iceberg. Looking forward to the other two parts!
ReplyDeleteMarianne--Greenland is a fairytale winter paradise! Icebergs there are a mint green--here in Alaska they are more blue...both are magical and incredibly powerful. The water surrounding them is so cold that if someone goes overboard they are dead in 20 minutes. Dangerous fishing territory--especially in high seas. That's where the expensive lobster and snow crab resides!
DeleteNice collaboration Elly and Victoria. I enjoyed it very much. Thank you for sharing and continued blessings!
