Ode to Shut-Ins--By David Fox--United States

Ode to Shut-Ins

Some shut-ins live at home
Others are behind bars
Others in nursing home beds
Trying to look at the stars
Most shut-ins hearts are broken
While others just need to mend
To all shut-ins that I know
I consider you my friend.

(From David: I volunteer at a nursing home and have had other shut-ins, whether they are home-bound or in another nursing home submit to my magazine.)

  3. Inge,
Thanks for your response. Believe it or not, the shut-ins are mostly seniors who have carefully saved their monies so they can afford my magazine (and in some case many other literary magazines), as well.

  5. Very powerful and full of emotion. It says a lot and yet doesn’t dwell on the pain. Emile.

Thank you so much. That means a lot. I have been volunteering at the same nursing home for 13 years. It gets me out of my group home once a week.

  17. Caryl,
It's not only that they are dependent on others, they tend to get lonely not to be able to see the outside world.
