Special Feature Collaborative Poem--By Yancy Lee and Diana Dalton--United States

Pain Play

By Yancy Lee and Diana Dalton

Pain and injury, not easily tolerated
Hurting topped by expenses generated
Popping controversial Dr. prescribed pills
Side effects, money hemorrhaging bills
Cooperate man, trumps men's misfortune
Expensively treated, a nasty distortion

Time to change the unfortunates’ way
Health care system where men play
World wide medical lottery system
75% to heal mankind, no victim
25% to winners treasure over strife
Life gamblers supporting each life

Now, I'm not a gambler in money means,
Yet, I'd gladly buy tickets for fellow beings

  1. Thank you, Isha Wagner, for the following--

I assume this verse is conveying a message that medical care is costly and not always effective and that it's all about big money. I am an advocate of pain relief and know from history that not too long ago almost no medical care existed and what did exist was ineffective so perhaps there is something, if not much, to be grateful for? However, perhaps I have quite misinterpreted this poem's meaning. I hope these writers are not in pain right now! Admiration to them.

    Yours sincerely
    Isha Wagner

    1. Thanks, you have it right, except we believe it is a desaster to anyone
that is injered or has illness to worry about money matters on top of
      recovering. Yancy & Diana Dalton

  2. Diana and Yancy,
I have both Medicare and Medicaid and it is still hard to find doctors outside my group home's (United Cerebral Palsy) agency that will tae either of them. I hope this is not the case for you, whether or not you have either of the insurances.
    Your new friend,

    1. Thanks David, We understand there are docters that will not use the afordable care act if patience are insured with it. We use to get by with out insureance
because of charity. Now if you do not have coverage, they will not treat you.
We suggest that if a way was invented to cover everyone, no one would worry.

  3. Thank you Diana and Yancy for sharing your well written collaborative poem. It was interesting to me because I am of the same opinion as it appears your poem conveys that the Medical profession leaves a lot to be desired both cost and drug wise, but today I am grateful for them as my husbands skin cancer was surgically removed two weeks ago and he is healing nicely. What part we must pay remains to be seen. At any rate thank you for sharing your talents.
    Sincerely, Charlene

  4. Well, I guess I should feel very blessed that I don't have such pain and don't need the medicine.............. at this point. But, I do read how spendy medicine is and what a zoo our health care system is in. It is always greed that enters somewhere into the picture, leaving the hard working population to bear the brunt of that grunt. That is so sinful! Sheri

    1. Thanks Maurice, We share a common dream that medical costs
should not put families or individules in poverty. A certain amount of people gamble anyway, so why not for sick ones, at least, not have the extra pain of paying through the nose.
